Privacy Policy

Type Notes: Classic Paper ("Type Notes", "the app") is a notes app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. It is built so that your writing stays yours. This policy explains, in plain words, what happens to your information.
The short version
- We don't collect your personal data.
- No accounts, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
- Your notes live on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud account.
- We run no servers. We can't read your notes.
Your notes
Everything you write (pages, folders, tags, rubber stamps, version history and daily backups) is stored on your device.
If you are signed in to iCloud, Type Notes syncs your pages between your devices using Apple's CloudKit, in the private database of your own iCloud account. The text of your pages, folder names and stamps are stored as encrypted fields. We, the developers, have no access to your iCloud data. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Type Notes also uses iCloud key-value storage to remember a few small counters across your devices: how many free envelopes you've used and which typewriters and papers you've already tried. They contain no personal information.
Purchases
Type Notes+ is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, Apple Account, or payment details. The app only checks with Apple whether the purchase is active on your account.
Sharing, importing and exporting
When you share a page (as an image, PDF, video, GIF, text, Markdown or a .typenote file), the app creates the file on your device and hands it to the system share sheet. It goes only where you choose to send it.
When you import pages (from Apple Notes, Files, or the Type Notes share extension), the app reads only the files and text you pick, on your device.
Device features
- Motion: the tilt of your device moves the reflections on the typewriter's chrome. It's processed in real time on your device and never stored or sent.
- Time of day: the light on the desk follows your device's clock. The app does not use your location.
- Shortcuts and Siri: the "Add Page" and "Import Pages" actions run on your device.
Diagnostics
If your device shares crash and performance reports with developers (an option in your device's Settings), Apple may provide us with anonymous, aggregated crash and performance data. The app also keeps its own crash and hang reports (from Apple's MetricKit) in a local folder on your device. They never leave it unless you choose to share them with us.
Children
Type Notes does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Deleting your data
Delete pages in the app, and they are permanently removed from the Trash after 30 days, or right away if you empty it. Deleting the app removes its data from that device. To remove the synced copy, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage and delete the data for Type Notes.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
